*Spoiler alert on the movie Kishkindha Kaandam, just minor references.
Few days ago, I watched an extremely interesting movie, “Kishkindha Kaandam”. Don’t worry there are no spoilers ahead, just a few lines referencing the movie, which was part of the trailer too.
The movie left me spellbound because of its brilliant writing by Bahul Ramesh and portrayal by the lead actors Vijaya Raghavan and Asif Ali.
Appupillai (Vijaya Raghavan) says a very deep dialogue to his son Ajayachandran (Asif Ali), that his memory loss is actually a blessing because he gets to accept the reality that he wants and move on.
This touched me to the core because with my stroke I got short term memory loss as residual, but with that my brain also did something miraculous; it deleted some of my bad memories which I subconsciously had probably regretted or wished to forget at some point in time in the past. It even erased memories of people who should have never been a part of my life in the first place! When I consulted my neurologist about this, he told me that the brain works hard in a magical way, just like a computer. It segregates our experiences and the people we meet into “core memory”, “good memory” and “bad memory”. It takes cues from how our body responds to these situations and uses that data to compartmentalize accordingly. That’s why I would never forget my loved ones like my husband, son and so on. But people who I have otherwise met passingly or haven’t had an impact on me or rather have had a bad impact on me, I forget. I have techniques to manage my short-term memory loss mostly to lead my life. It does put a lot of pressure on my caregivers, even my son’s teachers have understood this now and send me multiple reminders for forms to be returned, early releases, etc. One of the most positive advantages of this memory loss is whatever argument I have with my husband; I don’t remember it the next day when I wake up! I’m sure many men would have silently wished for their wives to have some kinda memory loss at some point in time! 🙂
Isn’t it beautiful to be given a chance to start each day with a clean slate. Wake up, live your day to the fullest, take whatever you like, delete the rest, reset, repeat! Make no mistake, it’s absolutely frustrating sometimes, but like everything in life, memory loss has a silver lining too!
Don’t miss out the stellar performance of Vijaya Raghavan and the brilliant bgm by Mujeeb Majeed in Kishkindha Kaandam! Must watch!
