Nunakuzhi, Whatte fun ride!

Keeping in mind your feedback about giving away spoilers in my review; this time I’ve tried my best to not sway into the story details.

After a long time we watched a movie yesterday as a family, where we laughed from start to finish! Nunakuzhi is a fan’s ode to ol’ time gurus of Malayalam humor like Priyadarshan and Siddique Lal. Nunakuzhi is based out of the niche of humor where a series of events are connected with lies and lead to misunderstandings of epic proportions, making the entire story hilarious!

Director Jeethu Joseph and writer K R Krishnakumar have teamed up in the past and made brilliant thrillers like 12th Man and Kooman. Writing such a story connecting event to event and making each encounter a funny mishap is extremely difficult. Kudos to K R Krishnakumar!

The movie’s winning point is not just the writing but the amazing actors in it as well. Basil Joseph, Grace Antony, Aju Varghese, Siddique, Manoj K Jayan, Baiju are all at the top of their game in this one.

Honestly, our son being an ardent Aju Varghese fan, we did really wish he had more screen time. But as always, although small, his presence elevated the movie to another level. His scene in the hospital while he is questioned by Baiju is extremely hilarious. Aju Varghese, Grace Antony, Basil Joseph, Azees Nedumangad and Baiju take the piece of cake in the whole movie, with this one scene.

Nikhila Vimal, Shyam Mohan, Saiju Kurup, Althaf Salim all had minimal screen time but played their part well.

Azees Nedumangad is here to stay. Even in the brief time he has on screen, he managed to create an impact with his swift dialogue delivery and comic timing.

Veterans Baiju and Siddique have slayed their supremacy in humor in Nunakuzhi! They gave old time vibes of movies like “In Harihar Nagar” with this one.

I really wish Nunakuzhi had good music to go with it too. Both the background music and original score didn’t quite match up to the movie.

Nunakuzhi is an absolute entertainer and if you really need a break, go watch this movie and be completely entertained and have fun!
